As reported by AV News in September, Sony Professional has entered the market for ultra-short throw projectors with VPL-SX535 and VPL-SW535. The company has also annnounced two new installation models – the VPL-CX235 and VPL-CW255, and the availability of the latest addition to its F-series VPL-FH35 projector, which joins the VPL-FH30 projector launched earlier this year.

Sony's new VPL-SW535 ultra short thow projector.

With power consumption and energy efficiency in mind, Sony has equipped the new ultra short throw and installation projectors with new features including the unique ECO Picture Mute function, which reduces power consumption by up to 70 per cent, saving users money and energy. This feature can be used in schools and enterprises as an instant off / on button, and means there is no need to turn the projectors completely off.

The projectors also use an ECO Lamp Dimming function, which when activated can reduce power consumption and brightness by 10 –15 per cent so gradually that it cannot be detected by the naked eye. After the user pre-sets a time for it to start, the brightness and power consumption will reduce to 30 per cent power usage, and will automatically return to full brightness when a new input or image is sent to the projector. These functions are not available with the VPL-FH35 projector.

A breakdown of features for each projector runs as follws:

    VPL-SX535 Ultra Short Throw projector

    • The VPL-SX535 offers a 0.34 – 0.36:1 throw ratio that produces a 2.03 meter (80 inch) diagonal screen size image from only 0.46 metres (1.5 feet) away from the centre of the projection window of the projector to the screen
    • Horizontal and vertical lens shift, so the positioning of the projector can be moved without distorting the projected image
    • Contrast ratio of 2,500:1
    • Video inputs and RJ45 or RS232C connectors for control purposes
    • 3000Im brightness
    • Three different brightness modes to suit individual user’s needs
      • Low brightness mode reduces operating costs by lowering power consumption and extends the lamp life to approximately 6,000 hours
    • The projector comes with a simple wall mount, and it can also correct keystone distortion by +/- 5% for perfect installation adjustment to the smart board or screen

    VPL-SW535 Ultra Short Throw projector

    • 0.27 – 0.29:1 throw ratio that produces a 2.03 meter (80 inch) diagonal screen size image from only 0.58metres (1.9 feet) away from the centre of the projection window of the projector to the screen, creating a shadow-less image
    • 2,500:1 contrast ratio
    • HDMI digital input
    • WXGA resolution
    • Video inputs and RJ45 or RS232C connectors for control
    • Three different brightness modes, controlled by one button on the remote control or projector panel:
      • High brightness of 3,000lm
      • Standard brightness of 2,400lm
      • Low brightness of 2,000lm reducing power consumption and extending lamp life to approximately 6,000 hours
    • The VPL-SW535 comes with a simple wall mount and it can also correct keystone distortion by +/- 5%, for perfect installation adjustment to the smart board or screen
    • The VPL-SW535 will be available in December 2011.

     VPL-CX235 projector
The VPL-CX235 is for the budget conscious user demanding advanced functionality.

    • 1.66 – 2.41:1 throw ratio
    • Contrast ratio of 3,100:1
    • Video inputs, HDMI and RJ45 or RS232C connectors for control purposes
    • The VPL-CX235 also features three brightness modes
      • High brightness of 4,100lm
      • Standard brightness of 3,100lm
      • Low brightness of 2,200lm, resulting in lower operating costs by reducing power consumption and extending the lamp life to approximately 5,000 hours
    • Manual V Lens Shift of +/- 5% H: +/- 4% and can correct keystone distortion by V: +/- 30% H: +/- 20%
    •  Screen Fit Mode for perfect installation and adjustment, and an eight point image warping adjustment for concave and convex surfaces, for picture perfect images
    • The VPL-CX235 will be available in December 2011

     VPL-CW255 projector

    • 1.32–1.91:1 throw ratio for new or WXGA replacement business
    • Three brightness modes
      • High brightness of 4,500lm
      • Standard brightness of 3,400lm
      • Low brightness of 2,500lm, resulting in lower operating costs by reducing power consumption and extending the lamp life to approximately 5,000 hours
    • 3,700:1 contrast ratio
    • Video inputs, HDMI and RJ45 or RS232C connectors for control purposes
    • Manual V Lens Shift of V: +/- 5% H: +/- 3% and can correct keystone distortion by V: +/- 30% H: +/- 20%
    • Screen Fit Mode for perfect installation adjustment and it has an eight point image warping adjustment for concave and convex surfaces
    • The VPL-CW255 will be available in December 2011.

     VPL-FH35 projector

Following the hugely successful VPL-FH30 projector, Sony has now announced the availability of the VPL-FH35, designed to fit smoothly into almost any environment where a high-quality projector is required.

    • High brightness of 5,200 lumens to give a clearer image in high ambient light, making it highly suitable for large venues
    • Its brightness, zoom and throw range, coupled with its wide lens shift range, mean it can perform where other projectors would struggle, even in high ambient light
    • The VPL-FH35 will be available in January 2011.
