Comedy Icon Leigh Francis unveils identity on Vieunite

Vieunite, the provider of advanced digital art solutions for showcasing curated and personalised artwork, has announced that British comedian, actor, television presenter, and artist Leigh Francis has joined Vieunite’s global creative community as its latest Featured Artist. Following conversations rooted in a shared passion for accessible art, Francis is bringing his distinctive, nostalgic and irreverent visual style to audiences through the Vieunite Art Library and Textura digital canvas. The addition of Leigh Francis is overseen by Vieunite’s in-house curatorial team led by Dr Benedict Carpenter van Barthold. Francis’ portfolio will sit alongside masterpieces from major cultural partners, including the National Galleries of Scotland, the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, and the Royal Pavilion at Brighton.

Best known for his character comedy, most notably as the creator of Bo’ Selecta! and the character of Keith Lemon, Francis is now stepping into the public eye to share his lifelong passion for visual art. Having originally studied graphic design at Jacob Kramer College (now Leeds Arts University), his portfolio features a bold pop-art aesthetic characterised by high-contrast line work and expressive, hand-drawn digital portraiture. His collection draws heavily on nostalgia, with fans recognising his own beloved creations – including The Bear, his iconic caricature of Mel B, and Avid Merrion – blended into surreal visual mashups. He also pays homage to his youth with meticulously hand-drawn recreations of 1980s pop culture and magazine covers.

Like his artistic hero David Hockney, Francis works largely on an iPad. In terms of its subject and style, his art is deeply rooted in the distinctiveness of British comedy. It continues the grand UK tradition of subversive, eccentric visual satire, using unapologetic caricature to puncture the slick veneer of modern celebrity culture with pure, anarchic joy. Leigh Francis commented, “A lot of people know me as the characters I’ve played on tv, Keith Lemon, Avid Merrion, the bear etc.. but when I’m not messing about on telly in the guise of some character I’ve created, I like nothing more than extreme sports! Surf boarding, snowboarding, wake boarding! Anything with a board! I’m kidding of course, my work on telly has always been very visual because basically I do a lot of art in my spare time. When I first found out about Vieunite and its mission to bring art to people’s lives, I felt it was the perfect fit for me. My work is mostly a mix of graphic nostalgia, bright fun pop art, and seeing it displayed on these incredible digital canvases is a fantastic way to bring that anarchic joy straight into people’s everyday lives.”

For the home user, Vieunite offers a new way to experience Leigh Francis’ vibrant imagination on a daily basis. The platform provides art lovers and comedy fans with an ever-evolving gallery right in their living rooms, transforming static walls into dynamic, highly personal conversation starters. Through the Vieunite app, users can easily curate their own rotating exhibitions to include Francis’ nostalgic, high-energy pieces, seamlessly switching between a cheeky 80’s homage and a classic masterpiece to suit their mood or décor. While focused on enriching the home environment, Vieunite remains fiercely dedicated to the creators themselves. The platform operates on a unique artist-first model where creators retain 100% of their IP, earning an industry-leading percentage of B2C licensing revenue, supplemented by a mutual Creative Commitment Fund that supports all active artists.

The same ecosystem extends into commercial environments through Vieunite Pro, enabling organisations across hospitality, corporate and other professional settings to incorporate digitised artwork into their spaces while creating an additional revenue opportunity for artists. To ensure visual integrity, the artworks will be displayed on the proprietary Textura digital canvas. Rather than using high-glare domestic TV panels, the Textura display features a texture-accurate matte anti-glare screen and an energy-efficient 350-nit output. This optical technology is engineered to replicate the physical depth, surface textures, and brushstrokes of physical canvas and pigment. Dr. Benedict Carpenter van Barthold, Cultural Director at Vieunite, commented: “Our focus is on presenting curated, museum-quality art within daily environments. By introducing Leigh Francis to our platform, we continue to bridge the gap between historic masterpieces and active, living contemporary creators, providing businesses and home users with authentic visual experiences.” The addition of Leigh Francis further expands Vieunite’s creative community, bringing together established cultural collections, contemporary artists and distinctive creative voices on one digital platform.
