IDNS for the the University of Wales Trinity St David
IDNS designed and delivered the UK’s first LED immersive space for education at the University of Wales Trinity St David. It answers the many challenges of using virtual reality in an educational setting and sets a new standard for immersive learning. Powered by Igloo’s ‘ICE’ software for the first time on an active installation, the immersive space provides artificial, digitally created content and environments that accurately replicate real-life scenarios. Learners aren’t simply passive spectators; they are active participants who directly influence outcomes so that new skills and techniques are learned and perfected collaboratively.
The immersive space is the UK’s first education-specific LED immersive space, providing students and partners with world-leading learning facilities. The immersive space integrates virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality technologies into the learning process. It creates engaging and interactive learning experiences that enhance learners’ cognitive, emotional, and social skills. It also offers a risk-free and safe space where learning is repeated, and success is accurately measured.
ST Engineering Antycip for the University of Caen Normandy
As an expert provider of simulation, analysis, modelling, display and virtual reality solutions, ST Engineering Antycip combines its in-house technical expertise with an unrivalled range of products from software and hardware providers. With teams in the UK, Italy and France, ST Engineering Antycip’s goal is to bring the latest technology for VR, simulation and visual displays to its customers and work with them through close supportive partnership-based projects. ST Engineering Antycip took its expertise as an integrator to a new level by enabling the University of Caen Normandy to offer users with reduced mobility full immersion in their VR room (also called CAVE) with a retractable treadmill. CAVE is used by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Virtual Reality (CIREVE), supporting researchers with the development, research and production of VR content.
In order to maintain an optimal level of realism, a CAVE must display the content at eye level. However, the size and elevation of the previous treadmill significantly reduced the immersive quality of the CAVE and for safety reasons CIREVE also had to fit safety rails on the sides to ensure the user’s stability, in addition users with reduces mobility were unable to use the movement feature. For CIREVE full accessibility was a must. ST Engineering Antycip was able to add a dimension of movement to make it possible to work on various research projects related to neurodegenerative diseases and disabling pathologies.
