Panasonic for BattleKart
BattleKart combines video gaming, augmented reality and electric go-karting to provide an exciting gaming experience. A series of different games are offered with different circuits projected onto the track. Players in their electric go-karts race around the games area, interacting with the AR scenery, bonuses, and other players. Incredibly successful (with more than 1m players since 2015), 25 centres already operational in Belgium, Germany, France, and Austria with new openings planned, including regions such as Switzerland, UK, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Australia. Panasonic projectors are used in franchises based in exhibition buildings, where ceilings are high, ranging from 10m to 17m tall.
BattleKart has used Panasonic’s VMZ Series of projectors in many of its locations. The current range has the world’s smallest and lightest LCD laser projectors in their class. This combination of high brightness in a lightweight, compact and reliable chassis, as well as optimal throw ratio and good lens shift capabilities was an important consideration in their choice of projector. Panasonic was the only manufacturer to offer a zoom lens of 1.09, along with great lens shift functionality and high brightness. This made installing the projectors much easier in these tall buildings and the high brightness delivered great visuals – even from a higher level on the ceilings. The number of projectors and sensors used in each BattleKart facility varies depending on the size and height of the location. But typically, between 30 and 60 Panasonic projectors are used per deployment. The facility also has a unique sensor system that tracks the location of the karts 200 times per second as they move around the track – enabling an advanced anti-collision system. As a result, BattleKart is fast and fun but importantly incredibly safe.
AUO for the Epsilon Course at Aniverse Keelung
The Epsilon Course (at Aniverse Keelung) is an immersive flight simulation attraction installed by AUO partner Brogent Technologies, featuring a 3M AUO LED dome display as its centrepiece. The display – which features high brightness, high resolution, high dynamic range and wide colour gamut – is combined with a 6-axis dynamic driver’s seat, providing an amazing entertainment experience. Brogent made use of AUO’s ALED technologies to achieve the hemispherical shape of the installation, and AUO sphere image processing technology (powered by an AUO controller) to transform flat images into spherical content to fit the dome display.
Epsilon harnesses AUO’s impressive LED dome display to create an immersive 360-degree visual experience, using real-time processing technology to enable players to interact with content instantaneously. The display features 18-bit colour depth and HDR to provide richer colours and smoother gradation for improved immersion. Its 4K resolution image provides striking clarity, whilst the 120fps frame rate creates smoother images with increased details. The technology also minimises colour variation when viewing from different positions and angles.
Vitalis for the Transformative Educational Digital Laboratory
Regent’s University is home to the first LED immersive VR power wall in academia, swapping the traditional projection method for a fine pixel pitch solution that delivers a better user and operator experience. The Transformative Educational Digital Laboratory was designed and delivered by Virtalis and utilised its proprietary Visionary Render software with an ongoing training and development initiative to futureproof the solution as the curriculum evolves.
The university encourages its students to learn differently, championing a personalised approach to education designed around their ambitions and equipping them with workplace ready skills to propel them into their future careers.
Virtalis has replaced the traditional projection method of power wall delivery with LED, selecting a 1.2mm pixel pitch Silicon Core display. The 4.86m x 2.39m VR ActiveWall delivers a higher resolution at just under 4k, a greater contrast and higher brightness of up to 1200 nits. This enhances details within the complex datasets and enables the power wall to be used in all ambient light conditions. The power wall runs at 120 frames per second, enabling the creation of an active 3D environment that allows users to visualise and interact with the virtual world. This can be done by multiple users simultaneously for design reviews, ‘hands on’ training, layout planning, operations and to practice maintenance tasks.
