Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe has launched its latest NEC MESSAGE Series lineup, supporting three different performance levels while all incorporating the Intel® Smart Display Module (Intel® SDM) interface specification. After teaming up with BirdDog to develop an NDI-powered decoder and encoder solution based on the Intel® SDM form factor specification, Sharp/NEC together with BirdDog now offers a full NDI and Dante-powered ecosystem that has a rich list of features built into a single display. This solution adds great value, especially in the higher education and corporate signage market where NDI plays a significant role.

BirdDog is an innovative company based out of Melbourne, Australia, which already has a noticeable list of engineering achievements based around IP Audio and Video using NDI and Dante formats. The new Encoder and Decoder with Intel® SDM specification integrates NDI technology directly into the screens, creating a true one-cable solution that eliminates the need for external hardware boxes. Never before have powerful AV over IP technologies been incorporated into a total solution so seamlessly.

Available in two models that incorporate either the Intel® SDM-L or the Intel® SDM-S specifications, there is an ideal solution for every application:

    • M1 is an Intel® SDM-L specification-based module that enables simultaneous NDI sending and receiving, while M2 is based on the Intel® SDM-S specification and is an NDI decoding receiver only.
    • BirdDog OS is a slick, modern visual interface that comes with both M1 and M2 model.
    • Dante can be added with an optional licence to marry the world of NDI and Dante and create immersive, powerful IP workflows.
    • RESTful API allows for complete programming of custom workflows.
    • Crestron Control library allows for integration with Crestron solutions.

“We are very honoured to partner with Sharp/NEC on bringing the world’s first Intel® SDM specification-based NDI Encoders and Decoders to market,” said Dan Miall, CEO and Co-Founder of BirdDog. “Working so closely with Sharp/NEC through product development has allowed for a totally integrated, feature-rich solution, that we know users will love. The power of NDI and Dante inside the screens make this the perfect solution for educational facilities, hospitals, corporate AV, digital signage applications, and much more.”

“When we first announced this complete NDI solution, universities and corporate customers showed remarkable interest,” added Nils Karsten, Strategic Alliance Manager at Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe. “After combining BirdDog’s competence for NDI technology with our reliable displays, packaged as the first Intel® SDM specification-based Encoder/Decoder option that works inside the display, we are truly excited about all the potential use cases we can serve with this solution.”

The Sharp/NEC and BirdDog solution bundle is available in August 2021 globally via selected channel partners. To learn more, please visit our web page.
