Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe has announced the availability of its latest NEC MediaPlayer purpose-built for digital signage applications. Pre-installed on the NEC Raspberry Pi Compute Module at no additional charge, the MediaPlayer software features advanced customisation capabilities suitable for digital display boards in retail, digital menu boards, corporate communication displays, and more. Sharp/NEC has also validated the new NEC MediaPlayer with Matrox® Maevex 6100 Series multi-channel encoders, enabling digital signage installers and integrators with a high-quality AV, end-to-end streaming platform over LAN, WAN, and internet.

The modular SoC MediaPlayer software is an intuitive, plug-and-play solution that is easy to install and customise for any digital signage application. Offering a wide-ranging feature set, the NEC MediaPlayer also includes powerful decoding out of the box, integrating seamlessly with Matrox Maevex 6100 Series encoder appliances and cards to support multiple streams up to 1080p60. The NEC MediaPlayer and Maevex 6100 Series encoders share common streaming protocol support and make it possible to send information- and ad-based digital signage content over the LAN, WAN, and even internet.

“The NEC MediaPlayer’s nature is based on a future-proof architecture,” said Nils Karsten, Strategic Alliance Manager at Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe. “Based on this smart design, we can smoothly expand its functionality by adding new, innovative features from partner companies such as Matrox. They are true experts when it comes to streaming technology.”

Jörg Langeheine, Account Manager, Matrox Video Europe, added, “The NEC MediaPlayer and Matrox Maevex Series pairing offers tremendous value to digital signage customers as they can now benefit from a real-time, end-to-end streaming system. We are excited to see Sharp/NEC leverage the exceptional video quality of our Maevex-generated streams with NEC’s Compute Module MediaPlayer operating as a valuable endpoint and the new deployment opportunities this offering will bring to the digital signage community.”

The NEC MediaPlayer is now available and comes pre-installed on the majority of NEC’s large-format displays and is compatible with any new or existing NEC display that supports Raspberry Pi Compute Module integration.
