    Compact installation range from Canon

Canon has introduced a new series of compact installation projectors that is said to feature market-leading image quality and represent a new category of projector solutions. The new Canon XEED Compact Installation series consists of two standard models (the XEED WUX450 and XEED WX520) and two short-throw models (the XEED WUX400ST and XEED WX450ST).

Canon XEED WUX450 - Angle 180pThe XEED WUX450 and XEED WX520 both have a 1.8x zoom projection lens that delivers virtually the same brightness throughout the entire zoom range.[i] The all-new projection lens has a constant aperture of F2.8, resulting in almost no loss of brightness at the telephoto end. This performance is a direct result of Canon’s expertise in lens design, coupled with the fifth-generation AISYS optical system, which maximises the performance of the LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) panels. LCOS technology produces fine, detailed images without the lattice effect sometimes seen on other projectors. The combination of LCOS technology and constant brightness is said to be unique to Canon and gives system integrators maximum flexibility to use the device from various throw distances, with no compromise on image quality or luminosity.

Canon is also launching two new short throw models – the XEED WUX400ST and XEED WX450ST.  Based on the same hardware design as the XEED WUX450 and XEED WX520, these projectors feature a new Canon short throw projection lens enabling system integrators to configure solutions with virtually no distortion (typically 0.1%) and a throw ratio of less than 0.6:1. This means that a 100” image can be projected from just 1.2 metres – equivalent to around one-third of the throw distance required by conventional projectors. Despite the short focal length, the lens can produce image sizes from 30” all the way up to a huge 300” diagonal. Crucially, the lens is equipped with both vertical and horizontal shift. In the vertical direction, an exceptionally wide range of 75% adjustment is available (77% on the WX450ST), enabling installation beneath or above the screen. The XEED WUX400ST and XEED WX450ST provide a previously unavailable solution for system integrators; high resolution projectors with high brightness, high contrast and a shiftable wide angle lens.

The new range is suitable for both front and rear projection, where space is at a premium or installation is difficult, increasing the flexibility of Canon’s projection solutions. The new range offers class-leading energy efficiency, with a dedicated ECO button. The new products use significantly less power than comparable products, whilst delivering exceptional brightness. Canon’s ultra-efficient fifth generation AISYS optical system and all new projection lenses are instrumental in this super-low power consumption. The standard models boast a best-in-class energy consumption of just 0.081 watts per lumen for the WUX450 and 0.068 watts per lumen for the WX520. Whilst in standby mode, the devices use less than one watt, further helping to prevent wasted energy. The new series supports system integrators with quick and easy maintenance features. The air filter can be accessed without the use of any tools and the lamp is replaced via a cover located on the top of the unit. This avoids the need to uninstall the projector, thereby minimising downtime and improving efficiency. Firmware updates can also be delivered via a USB flash drive, meaning that essential updates can be applied without the need to return the device to a service facility.

Thanks to a brand new image processor, the models also include an array of advanced features that make them particularly suitable for multi-display applications. Registration adjustment allows installers to perfectly align the three RGB panels, effectively eliminating convergence issues. Hardware edge blending is now built-in, enabling system integrators to easily create panoramic images with perfect blends between each projector. Four corner keystone correction is available across the range, which makes it easier to configure clear displays from any projection angle. The new series of XEED Compact Installation projectors, including ‘Medical’ variants (equipped with a DICOM simulation image mode), will be on sale in the second half of 2013. The XEED WUX450 and XEED WX520 will be available in the UK from early October 2013 with an RSP of £3387 and £3218 ex VAT respectively.

[i] Brightness may decrease by up to 5%. Based on a single image size

[ii] WUX450 and WX520 only. 3000 – 6000 lumen projectors, 0.8” panel size or less, single-lamp models. Based on Canon Inc research as of May 2013.
