Belgian venue gets barnstorming makeover with AV Stumpfl screen

A new cultural centre in Belgium is the latest entertainment venue to benefit from a high-quality, innovative projector screen developed by Austrian display and media server expert AV Stumpfl.

Systems integrator Inytium sourced an AV Stumpfl projection screen from AED Belgium to install it in Maison Rurale “Espace Jijé”, a 180-seat multipurpose venue serving the city of Fosses-la-Ville in Wallonia.

Named after local Belgian comics artist Jijé, the new Maison Rurale (‘Rural Home’) is located in a former barn and includes facilities for meetings and exhibitions, an outdoor space, and two auditoria, including a 180-seat multipurpose hall.

Inytium and design firm Sceno-consult were commissioned by the city of Fosses-la-Ville to design, source and install a complete AV system for Maison Rurale “Espace Jijé”, including staging, cables, lighting and sound. In addition to the AV Stumpfl screen, the venue features equipment from Electro-Voice, ChamSys, Epson and Verlinde Lifting Equipment.

To meet the venue’s display needs, Julien Calande, project manager for Inytium, explains that the company opted for a rail-mounted AV Stumpfl projection screen from the VarioClip product family, which can be moved to one side of the stage when not in use: “A flexible solution had to be found to avoid dismantling the screen each time it was used,” he says. “We decided to put it on a rail behind the black background of the stage.”

François Hubaux, from Sceno-consult, continues: “In multi-purpose spaces like this one, the positioning of the screen is a recurrent debate: Either in front of the stage for cinema, in between for conferences, and at the back of the stage for shows. The choice we made was to select a robust and qualitative screen that could be self-supporting or suspended with the help of adapted lifting rings.”

AV Stumpfl’s VarioClip is a modular screen system consisting of a basic frame that can be sized to any format by adding or removing plug in extruded aluminium elements. The screen, which is made in Austria and comes with a five year warranty, can be made to measure. Maison Rurale opted for a 691 x 431cm screen surface.

In AV Stumpfl’s projection screens, and the VarioClip product family in particular, the partners found the perfect solution for the challenges presented by the Maison Rurale “Espace Jijé” install. Hubaux says he was particularly impressed by the quality of the fabrics, the screen’s robustness and range of accessories available, as well as its value for money.

The AV Stumpfl screen also impressed the client, adds Calande, who now has a flexible solution for the diverse range of events planned for the venue in 2022.
