Queen Street, one of Cardiff’s main retail and nightlife hubs, has premiered a new 6-square-metre LED video display featuring 10 millimetre SMD (Surface-Mount Device) line spacing from Daktronics. The billboard is part of OOH media owner blowUP media’s Super Motion network.
Daktronics high resolution LED display (828 pixels high by 684 pixels wide) creates unrivalled moving images and has given the whole street a face lift. Installed very close to the building’s wall – 110 millimetres of distance to allow for sufficient ventilation – the screen becomes an integral part of the building, providing a dynamic display where before was just a static banner.
Daktronics European Business Development Manager Mark Taylor says, “ The total energy output of this 8.4 metre high by 6.9 metre wide display is an average of 8,740 watts. All our products are certified and EMC tested, which is very important in helping to minimize any disruptions to blue light communication services.”
Katrin Robertson, CEO of blowUP media, says, “The new Queen Street site is a first for the OOH industry in the centre of Cardiff. It is a clear demonstration that our growing Super Motion digital network can enhance city centre environments as well as introduce valuable commercial investment.
“We are now developing a large portfolio of Super Motion screens throughout Europe, all located within the immediate vicinity of very high pedestrian footfall and the point of sale. The new Cardiff Super Motion sets another benchmark within our large format premium portfolio, allowing our clients to activate their brand emotionally by using innovative moving images.”
blowUP’s media’s Super Motion digital screens network also spans into Europe including the recently-unveiled ‘The WOW’ in Rotterdam. ‘The WOW’ is a 170-square-meter, 16 millimeter line spacing Daktronics display that had Unilever as its official launch partner.
