Duke Kunshan University has recently completed the installation of 116 Sennheiser TCC 2 Ceiling Array Microphones across 50 classrooms and various other spaces on its campus. This upgrade aims to enhance the blended learning experience for students and faculty with superior sound quality and user-friendly operation, aligning with the university’s goal of creating a world-class educational environment.
Part of the university’s second-phase audio-video project, covering 22 campus buildings including 29 classrooms, 20 conference rooms, and a visitor center, this initiative is notable for its scale, advanced technology, and complexity. The Sennheiser TCC 2 ceiling array microphone was chosen for its audio technology, open technology path, and proven success, with 116 units installed to ensure consistent Sennheiser audio quality across all spaces.
Duke Kunshan University delivers courses taught by faculty from Duke University in the US and other global locations, necessitating immersive online learning experiences that mirror face-to-face interactions. The audio equipment must provide clear sound quality, stable transmission, and ease of use while seamlessly adapting to different room types and teaching scenarios.
The TCC 2 features patented Dynamic Beamforming technology that automatically tracks speaker positions and switches between them in real time, enhancing classroom flexibility. With its 28 broadcast-quality microphone heads, the TCC 2 delivers clear and natural sound, enabling remote participants to engage with speakers as if physically present.
During implementation, Sennheiser’s technical engineers conducted on-site investigations and room-by-room debugging at Duke Kunshan University to optimize the placement and angle of each TCC 2 for optimal voice clarity, a process highly valued by the university.
“The exceptional quality of the TCC 2 is undeniable, and the Sennheiser team was instrumental in the project’s smooth implementation,” praised Miles. “In our future development plans, we look forward to continued collaboration with Sennheiser to optimize our audio/video facilities and further enhance the immersive learning and collaborative experience for teachers and students.”
