The La Coupole Planetarium, the History and Remembrance Centre located in the North of France, has announced that the planetarium can now offer visitors unforgettable journeys through the Universe in an ultra-modern 360° environment powered by Sony’s VPL-GTZ380 native 4K projectors.

The 15m digital viewing dome is powered by 12 of the 4K VPL-GTZ380 Sony projectors, to offer ultra-realistic and stunning images in real time and in 3D with the highest levels of brightness, and contrasts. The VPL-GTZ380 projectors reach 10,000 lumens through a laser light source, with the SXRD 4K panels achieving the necessary high levels of contrast to create a truly immersive experience for visitors.
Working with RSA Cosmos, the planetarium has installed the latest version of their astronomical software SkyExplorer 2021 and combining RSA Cosmos’s and Sony’s leading technologies means that the highest resolution, image quality and rendering has been achieved throughout the dome. The 3D Planetarium of La Coupole now achieves a total brightness of 120,000 lumens and displays the most complex content with the finest rendering.
“The goal of this modernisation project was to achieve an image quality we no longer had. Thanks to the Sony projectors, we obtain a magnificent sky, splendid colours and great contrasts”, says Nicolas Fiolet, Planetarium Manager at the 3D Planetarium of La Coupole.
To offer visitors an always greater visual and interactive experience, RSA Cosmos also installed new seats integrating their unequalled Audience Response system. Each armrest is equipped with one control panel allowing the audience to participate to quiz, select scenarios, and take direct control of the movement of the camera in the simulation, offering highly dynamic planetarium sessions and bringing great interaction between users & the audience.
“We have had very positive feedback from visitors”, says Amélie Fivey, animator of the 3D Planetarium of La Coupole.
