The University of the Arts London (UAL) recently decided to upgrade its audio-visual systems, collaborating with London-based integrator Tateside for the project. Joby Morris, Audio Visual and Networks Specialist at Tateside, explains that the project included classroom refurbishment at South London campuses and a full installation at a campus in High Holborn.
Tom Lynch, Technical Manager at UAL, shares that they chose Tateside for their understanding of using NDI and Dante to create flexible learning environments without vendor lock-in. The High Holborn site, part of UAL’s Creative Computing Institute, saw significant improvements for in-person and remote students. Jack Cornish, Technical Director at Tateside, highlights UAL’s visionary use of NDI and their preference for BirdDog technology.
The larger classroom at High Holborn features Panasonic projectors, Supernova Core screens, a custom lectern with Q-Sys control, and BirdDog NDI camera for recording or streaming. The second classroom uses Samsung screens, and Q-Sys manages source, endpoint, and audio control. Blustream HDBaseT Splitter and BirdDog NDI endpoints handle video distribution.
South London campuses Peckham Road and Greencoat underwent improvements, with Crestron re-programming at Peckham Road and additional equipment integration at Greencoat for consistent learning experiences. Both campuses have network-based audio (Dante) and video distribution (Blustream HDBaseT Splitter), with Crestron control and Top-Tec custom panels.
UAL’s Technical Manager, Tom Lynch, acknowledges Tateside’s flexibility and intelligence in creating versatile spaces despite building delays and shifting deadlines, ensuring functional spaces for the term start.
