INFiLED MVmk2 delivers 1,100 square metres of LED across Dubai Mall

Emaar Properties has built a new digital out-of-home advertising network across Dubai Mall using INFiLED’s MVmk2 Series LED displays, with roughly 1,100 m² of screen distributed across approximately 50 indoor and outdoor positions. Delivered with Dubai-based integrator Blue Rhine Industries and completed in July 2026, the network gives one of the world’s most visited retail destinations a scalable advertising system built on a single display platform. Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping, entertainment and leisure destination, covering more than one million square metres, which is about 200 football pitches in size. The mall includes over 1,200 retail stores and hundreds of food and beverage outlets. It is located alongside the Dubai Aquarium, an Olympic-sized ice rink and an indoor cinema complex. A digital network serving a footprint on that scale has to work in a very wide range of conditions.

The biggest decision was the choice of display series. INFiLED’s MVmk2 is engineered as an outdoor product, positioned for urban media landmarks, transit hubs and premium outdoor advertising. Specifying it for indoor positions inside a shopping mall runs against typical logic, but the reason it is employed here has to do with how Dubai Mall is lit. Much of the mall’s circulation space is daylit through extensive skylights and large glass façades. Screens placed near those light sources face ambient light levels far closer to outdoor conditions than to the controlled interior environment that a standard indoor display is designed for. An indoor-grade panel in those positions would wash out. The MVmk2 was selected specifically to hold content legibility against that natural light, running at 4,500 nits with high contrast and colour uniformity. They also have a 3,840 Hz refresh rate that keeps the displays clean on camera, as this is one of the most photographed buildings in the region. “People assume the indoor and outdoor distinction is about weather, but in a building like this it is really about colours and brightness,” says Hatem Malhas, INFiLED’s sales manager for DOOH – Middle East. “Dubai Mall has enormous glazed areas and skylights, so a screen near one of them is competing with daylight, even though it sits indoors. Specifying an outdoor series was the straightforward engineering answer to that, and it means the network performs consistently whether a display is in a daylit atrium or an external position.”

Beyond the light, the network’s difficulty lies in its distribution. Roughly 50 positions meant roughly 50 sets of conditions. Each had differing dimensions, installation height, available access, structural integration, viewing distance and angle, and the surrounding architecture the display had to sit within. Therefore, each location was assessed individually before anything was installed. These evaluations covered every element you can think of. Customised structural solutions followed from those assessments rather than preceding them. Operations at the mall added a second constraint to the project. Dubai Mall trades continuously, and installation across 50 positions had to be coordinated to minimise disruption of daily operations. As a result, access and installation activity was planned around the site’s operational restrictions rather than around the convenience of the install schedule. The resulting formats vary considerably in scale. Among the larger installations are a screen measuring 20 by 5 metres, a second at 20 by 4 metres, and a pair of 4 by 6 metre displays. Each one runs the same 3.9 mm pixel pitch MVmk2 hardware in continuous 24/7 operation, with content across the network managed through a centralised content management platform.

The MVmk2 is built for exactly that duty cycle. The series carries IP65 protection on both front and rear faces, and it is designed for permanent installation and continuous operation, with a reinforced two-layer H-frame that holds cabinet flatness and pixel alignment over years of service. This matters for large-format screens where any deformation shows. A slim aluminium cabinet suits tight parapet mounting and flush-frame façade designs where cabinet depth is restricted. Front and rear access allows a module to be released and replaced without tools as well. Its energy consumption is 16 per cent lower than the previous MV generation, and that is a meaningful figure across 1,100 m² running around the clock.

Project integrator Blue Rhine Industries has operated in the region for more than 20 years, beginning as a sign-maker in 2003 and growing into a digital signage and wayfinding partner across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East. Today, they have more than 750 specialists and five manufacturing facilities. Their previous work inside Dubai Mall includes the award-winning Dubai Aquarium bulkhead LED installation. For Emaar, the outcome is a scalable digital advertising network built on a single proven display platform, delivered while optimising both capital expenditure and long-term operating costs. For the wider market, the project makes a useful point about specification. The environment in which a display actually has to survive matters more than the label on the product category. In a building lit like Dubai Mall, indoor and outdoor are not as far apart as they look.
