    Introduction
Bryan Denyer, editor of AV News, introduces a BYD case study featuring a ground-breaking change in automotive retail practice.

What do you usually get when you enter a car showroom? A sales rep in a shiny suit? A dispenser stuffed with outdated and tatty brochures? But little, or nothing, that conveys the thrill of the driving experience or the benefits of vehicle ownership!

“AV technology has driven a paradigm shift in auto-motive showroom design, transforming static spaces into immersive, interactive environments that elevate customer engagement and brand storytelling. The changes have reshaped automotive retail by transforming how cars are sold, owned and maintained. AV integration supports sleek, minimalist showroom layouts, reducing the need for physical inventory while maintaining a premium ambience.”

Innovative car and van builder BYD entered the market for electric vehicles in 2021. The company wanted its innovative designs and technologies to be reflected in the immersive and impactful cus-tomer experience within its state-of-the-art show-rooms. Leal Energie Ltd, BYD’s official distributor in Mauritius, turned to ViewSonic to help them create environments that truly captured the sensation of owning and driving its revolutionary products.

Revolutionary new products, new showroom Experience

To realise the showroom brief, Leal Energie and BYD partnered with ViewSonic, with Leaf communications and informatics (LCI) providing the personnel and professional expertise for the installation to help to fulfil the showroom’s ambition’s. The brief called for a large-format and high-quality LED dis-play as the focal point of the showroom layout. “By strategically placing the large-format LED display at the entrance, it becomes a focal point upon entry to shape the customer’s first impression. Alongside BYD’s branding guideline, we wanted something  more eye-catching that wouldn’t compromise too much valuable floor space. This was made possible by ViewSonic’s All-in-One Direct View LED solutions,” said Loic Serret, Manager at Leal Energie Ltd.

To meet showroom requirements, ViewSonic deployed its Customisable Series, combining flexible sizing, easy installation, and integrated features.

    Installation efficiency and optimised space

The LDC031-250 All-in-One LED Display delivers 600 nits of brightness and consistent high contrast, ensuring vivid performance even under direct showroom lighting and natural daylight conditions addressing BYD’s visibility needs across various ambient scenarios. The client also request-ed a clean aesthetic with no additional framing or enclosure work. Traditional LED walls were unsuitable—bulky and installation-heavy, with added structural elements that increase maintenance costs.

Prior to delivery, the All-in-One LED’s key configuration tasks were completed off-site, including con-troller setup, cabinet layout definition, and signal routing. Brightness calibration was also done in-factory using camera-based measurements to ensure uniform luminance across the wall. On-site, the installation was simplified to physical cabinet alignment, cable connection, and visual performance checks.

The All-in-One solution, with integrated power and control systems, eliminated the need for licensed electrician support, allowing a two-person team to complete setup in just four hours. The selected The selected LDC031-250 display required no extensive wall drilling or separate AV installation. Its ultra-slim 31 mm profile and built-in speakers enables a clean wall-mounted installation with minimal protrusion, reducing the overall installation depth to just 5.3 cm compared to the traditional 20–40 cm required.

Display durability and ease of maintenance

The display’s longevity is especially important in challenging environments. In high-humidity environments like Mauritius (around 74–76% humidity), traditional SMD displays are prone to dead pix-els from impact and moisture, raising long-term durability concerns. The display’s Glue-On-Board (GOB) surface treatment offers enhanced durabili-ty against dust, moisture, and physical impact—ideal for Mauritius’s humid environment and high-traffic showroom conditions.

On site, staff could easily manage and update content via remote control, whether for new model launches, technical features, or marketing cam-paigns. The display also supports full-front mainte-nance, allowing individual module replacement without disassembling the entire system—minimis-ing downtime and further streamlining operations, resulting in a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) solution that aligns with BYD’s expectations.

“This installation demonstrates how ease of set-up, operation, and maintenance can encourage businesses to embrace advanced display technol-ogies. The process was faster, simpler, and re-quired very few resources,” noted Vidya Dabydoyal, Senior Sales Executive at Leal Communications & Informatics Ltd.

Building customer loyalty by conveying brand value

The installation has received consistently positive feedback from visitors, who frequently comment on the display’s clarity and visual impact. The flexibility to update content instantly has helped staff respond to customer enquiries more effectively, enhancing engagement and reinforcing BYD’s premium brand image.

The streamlined design preserved showroom open-ness and comfortably accommodated up to six dis-play vehicles. Visitors could explore the space free-ly, interact with the vehicles without obstruction, and enjoy wider viewing angles.

ViewSonic’s LED solution not only transforms the physical atmosphere of the showroom but also aligns with its future-focused identity. “We share the same commitment to innovation with Leal and BYD. ViewSonic’s All-in-One LED lineup, from customisable LDC to foldable LDS and pre-configured LDP, LDM, and the new LDE Series, is designed to meet diverse business needs by making large-scale displays more accessible, easier to implement, and setting a new benchmark for the industry,” said Dean Tsai, General Manager of Pro AV Solutions Business Unit at ViewSonic.

This collaboration demonstrates how in-store dis-plays can serve as a strategic brand asset transforming the showroom into an immersive experience and delivering long-term value through adaptability, engagement, and customer loyalty.
