Marquee AV has completed the installation of an audio system at Kioku by Endo, the newest restaurant by renowned chef Endo Kazutoshi. Located in the Old War Office Building, Kioku offers a dining experience that combines Japanese and Mediterranean influences.
The Old War Office, a historic building with significant ties to events of the 20th century, recently underwent a six-year renovation. It now hosts Kioku by Endo, a restaurant designed to reflect Chef Endo Kazutoshi’s culinary journey and personal experiences.
The whole installation covered the ground-floor bar set up as well as the 6th-floor and 6th-floor outdoor terrace and was piloted by Director at Marquee AV, Stacey Tough.
For the ground floor, Bose Professional DesignMax 3SE loudspeakers were selected and positioned throughout the Bar to provide full and consistent sound, supported by FreeSpace 3 Acoustimass bass modules to strengthen the lower frequencies.
The main dining area on the 6th floor boasts large windows offering stunning views of the Southbank skyline. The outdoor dining area wraps around the perimeter balconies, creating an elegant dining experience where guests eat amidst the rooftops of central London.
Marquee AV’s team focused on developing a sound system that aligned with the aesthetic of the surrounding environment and the dining setup. The system was designed to be versatile, supporting a wide range of events while maintaining a high level of performance.
Stacey opted for Bose Professional DesignMax 5 speakers, reinforced by hidden bass units, to maintain the sleek aesthetic and uphold impressive audio quality. The restaurant had also requested DJ equipment from Marquee, to be readily available without the need to hire equipment whenever they were hosting events. The Marquee team specified Pioneer CDJ3000 digital turntables, and a Pioneer DJM 900NSX2 mixer, stowed neatly in a custom flight case. The system also includes background music and DJ inputs, as well as twin mics discreetly concealed within the piano and a dual mic wireless system for vocals and instruments such as the cello or violin.
One of the building’s iconic turrets houses a private dining area, complete with its own turntable. The Pioneer PLX-500-K turntable is for clients to use which is connected to a pair of high quality HiFi speakers, adding a personal touch and exclusivity to the audio and dining experience at Kioku.
Marquee AV’s commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of this project. Stacey Tough said, “The attention to detail throughout the restaurant, in the design and menu, was immaculate and we aimed to match this with the sound system. Working with the owners to understand their vision, we delivered a high-performing immersive audio experience that will elevate their live music events beautifully. From the intimate private dining areas to the expansive outdoor terraces, we have created a seamless sound environment that complements the restaurant’s sophisticated ambience. We are thrilled to have contributed to making Kioku, a premier bar and dining destination in London.”
