Philips is a rapidly-emerging display brand with a unique combination of technologies and an increasingly popular business proposition in the channel. The Philips Roadshow was not only an opportunity to consider new hardware releases, but also a chance to review some of Philips’ technology partners responsible for the application software that enables Philips to offer differentiated and specialist solutions to the channel.
Partners and resellers that A News spoke to alluded to be advantages that Philips offer through the features that Philips builds into its displays as standard that would be options elsewhere. While the benefits of some Philips’ technologies are less obvious in the professional market, like Philips Ambilight TV (where Intelligent LED’s cast on screen colours on to the walls, and into the room, in real time). Philips argues that: “The screen will seem bigger, every moment will fell closer, and music gets a light show spectacular.” So too, Philips Hue lighting is a personal lighting system that lets users easily control your lighting, and create the right ambience for every moment, bringing smart rooms to life with the most connected light in the world.”
Some of the work by Philips’ development partners seems immediately useful, in areas like collaboration, digital signage and room booking, and can be deployed immediately on Philips hardware. The problem is that the developers of these applications are relatively unknown, making the resellers task hat much more difficult.
