    ViewSonic introduces lampless and see-through

ViewSonic announced a raft of new projection and digital signage technologies in its ISE introductions. Chief among these were a 32-inch transparent display and a hybrid laser / LED projector.

    ViewSonic's lampless home cinema projector.

Available from June of this year, the see-through display technology is said to be ideal for integrating into window display designs, vending machines or for creating a double layer merchandising effect. The first layer of the transparent display showcases product highlights or content, while the second demonstrates the actual product.

In addition to the 32” transparent display, ViewSonic plans to introduce a 42” transparent model. Both models will be in mass production in Q2 2012. A touch-screen can be added as option to add interactive features.

Other ViewSonic digital signage innovations included interactive solutions, including gesture control using Kinect sensors and application software from partner So Touch. ViewSonic has been busy migrating its commercial displays to LED backlighting. A 55” ultra narrow bezel LED commercial display for video wall application is among the early releases.

Aside from its new lampless projector (see page 8 for details), ViewSonic has also tackled the issue of edge-blending, which the company says was previously seen as a “luxury” effect for large, costly venue projectors. ViewSonic says that it has made edge-blending affordable. The ViewSonic EB series has a standalone processor implementing up/down scaling and format conversion as well as edge blending and geometric adjustment up to WQXGA input and WUXGA (Full HD) output. ViewSonic’s EB series will be available from mid June 2012.
